Miter trim

This command creates miter trims on the extruded bars.

Creation stages / Use:

Click the icon or select Modeling > Miter Trim... command from the drop-down menu.

  1. Select the different extruded bars to cut.

The offset is symmetrical. The offset value is the total distance between the 2 cross sectioned planes.

The offset is symmetrical. The offset value is the distance between a cross sectioned plane and the center plane. This is half of the total length.

The offset is asymmetrical. The first offset is from the side of the first selected extruded bar (sky blue).

  1. Enter the offset between 2 extruded bars.

  1. Select the miter trim mode:

The miter plane is adapted to the sections

This is the default mode, it allows to create clean trims between extruded bars with different sections or curved extruded bars. The angle of the trimming plane will adapt to the sections and will therefore differ from the centered bisector plan (mode below) when the two sections are not equal.

The plane bisects the angle between the extruded bards at their center

The trimming plane used is the plane oriented along the bisector axis of the two extruded bars at the intersection of their support fiber (curve passing through the center of the section's enclosing box).

Trim on identical sections

Trim on different sections

The plane bisects the angle between the extruded bars at the interior

The bisector plane is at the interior of the two extruded bars. TopSolid trims the extruded bar with the larger section so that its end is trim by the shorter extruded bar.

The bisecting plane is inside the extruded bars. The large-section extruded bar is extended to the second profile

The plane bisects the angle between the extruded bars at the exterior

The bisector plane is at the exterior of the two extruded bars. The extruded bar with the larger section is trim by the inner plan of the smaller section up to the intersection with the bisecting plane.

The bisecting plane is outside the extruded bars. The large-section extruded bar is trimmed by the inner plane of second extruded bar

The trim gets curved between non-linear extruded bar

This mode allows to make miter trims between curved extruded bars with a non-planar tool. The material loss along the cut is similar for both extruded bars.

With this mode, the material loss along the cut is similar for both extruded bars

With The miter plane is adapted to the sections mode, one extruded bar is trimmed more than the other

  • The Miter trim operation is displayed in the operations tree.

  • If several profiles are selected, several cuts will be done.

  • Extruded bars that have been derived for modification support miter trims.

Modifications / Additional information:

The Create folder option groups all cuts (when several profiles are selected) in a folder of the operations tree.

The modification of the tabs cross section is performed contextually from the operations tree or on the edge from the graphic.
