Material or coating

Links/Videos:

This command assigns a material and a coating to a part.

Creation stages / Use:

Click the icon or select Tools > Material or Coating... from the drop-down menu.

  1. Select a material in the drop-down list or check No material. Select the type, then the category.

  2. Select a coating in the drop-down list or check No coating. Select the type, then the category.

  • Only materials and coatings referenced by the project and opened are displayed in the drop-down list.

  • A validated material or coating may be dropped from a project towards the part.

If the No Material option is checked, you cannot calculate the mass of the part. If the part has no mass, the assembly that uses it may be in error in case of strict mode. Dynamic simulations no longer work either.

Available Options:

The Derive option allows to modify the material and the coating of a derived or mirror part if it is checked. This option only appears for this type of parts. If this option is unchecked, the material and the coating will be those of the main part.

The parameter option allows you to drive the material or coating by a parameter that references a Material or Coating document. See the Material parameter and Coating parameter commands for more details.

Additional information:

A modification can be done from the entities tree, in the Parameters folder, using the popup menu on the Material icon.
