Initial Position

This command is used to edit the initial position of an electrode before its dive. It is characterized by the position of its EDM frame.

Creation stages / Use:

Edit the Initial Position (Electrode) operation from the operation tree in Analysis stage or from the context menu on an electrode in the graphic area.

  1. Move the diving cursor to view the dive of the electrode.

  2. Modify or not the parameters for calculating the diving distance, and view the positions coordinates.

  3. Validate .

  • For each electrode created, its initial position is automatically calculated in the analysis stage. It is possible to view these positions via the initial positions command.

  • The initial positions are occurrences of the electrode, they are named Electrode Name < Initial Position>.

  • The contextual command Edit initial position, will only be available after having saved the document, or after having passed it in the analysis stage.

Available options:

  • Diving: A cursor allows you to visualize the diving of the electrode, from its initial position to its final position.

  • Diving direction: By default, the diving direction corresponds to the Z direction of the shape to erode frame. It is possible to choose another direction.

  • Diving distance:

  • Automatic: In the automatic diving distance calculation mode, the distance will be equal to the total height of the shell, plus a safety margin.

  • Manual: If the automatic mode is disabled, it is possible to set the desired value of the diving distance. The safety margin is no longer taken into account in this case.

  • Security margin:  The margin applied by default is given in the electrode document options.

  • Initial position: The initial position of the calculated electrode EDM frame is displayed.

  • Final position: The final position of the calculated electrode EDM frame is displayed.

  • Show mandrel: This option allows you to display or not the electrode mandrel when animating the dive.
