Tapping

This command creates tappings on the cylindrical faces

Creation stages / Use:

Click the icon or select Shape > Other Operations > Tapping... command from the drop-down menu.

  1. Select the cylindrical face to tap.

  2. Select the original plane to determine the start of the tapping.

  3. Determine the different tapping parameters

  4. Validate the command with the button

To be able to create the tappings, you must reference a library containing the standard you wish to use for the tapping.

Available Options:

This option allows to create the tapping along the entire length of the selected face.

This option specifies the length of tapping (measured in relation to the original plane).

The Complete tapping command creates the tapping along the entire length of the selected face. If the Complete tapping is set to True, the length is grayed.

This option allows to create the actual tapping shape for 3D printing.

Here's how to make a user threading standard compatible with 3D modeling:

  • In a 2D model document, draw internal and external thread profiles (in 2 different sketches).

  • Provide the Threading profile function to this 2D model document and fill publications (profiles, positioning frames, diameters ...).

  • Into your threading standard document, select your 2D model document in the Thread profile field.

For example, you can copy/paste and customize the 2D model document Metric ISO 724 available in the TopSolid library, Threads folder.

3D modeling is not compatible with tapered tapping.

This option allows you to select the tapping standard to use from those found in the project or references.

The tapping dimension is automatically selected from the dimensions available in the standard based on the diameter of the cylindrical face selected.

If this option is deactivated, you have to fill every tapping values (Description, nominal diameter, pitch, internal diameter, but also in the advanced tab, if the tapping is left hand or not).
