Options : Assembly - Parts Operation

This section allows to modify the assembly behavior.

Creation stages / Use:

Click the icon or select the Tools > Options... command from the drop-down menu.

  1. Click [+] in front of the Assembly section in the left column.

  2. Select Parts Operation.

Available options:

  • Show process dialog after inclusion:

Including a part or a sub-assembly into an assembly file, in case of the element references only one process document then the process is used automatically. With this option, the process dialog appears before its use (can be useful if you want to use the manual mode of the process).

  • Process repetition:

  • Assembly: The process is repeated in the assembly. The part contains as many basic operations as numbers of repetition occurrences.

  • Parts: The process is repeated in the part. The part contains the basic operation and its repetition. The repeat options of the part document are then available, including the Fast mode.

  • Show dialog: The dialog box for selecting the process repeat mode appears after the component is repeated.

Operation on part:

Concerns the part (not synchronized and not local) that are specifically selected by the user (or a component process).

  • Mode:

  • Automatic: The settings bellow are automatically applied to the modified part during assembly operation.

  • Show dialogue: After validating the dialog box of an assembly operation, another dialog box is displayed with the options bellow so the user can decide their setting at the moment.

  • Modify the definition document:

  • Yes, with synchronisation (if possible): This is the classic method. TopSolid create a synchronization between the assembly and the modified part in order to share their operation tree.

  • Yes, without synchronisation (if possible): With this mode, part and assembly will not be synchronized. This kind of operation is preceded by the symbol # in the operation tree. This operation will not be updated when the tool is modified, this update can be done from contextual menu on the operation or several and selection the Others > Rebuild not Synchronized Operations... or from Edit > Rebuild not Synchronized Operations... (in this case the updating will be done on all not synchronized operations). A Basify... command is also available in contextual menu on this type of operation, it deletes the assembly operation, while keeping the operations in the parts, which it will then be possible to edit.

With the mode without synchronization, no information (message, icon,...) will indicate to the user that a document is not up to date, to gain in performance. He will have to take responsibility for manual updating.

  • No: In this mode, the definition document (part or sub-assembly) is not modified.  For this to be possible, TopSolid needs to use another method to modify the part. The other method is selected among the list bellow.

  • Part modification method if definition document not modifiable:

This drop-down list allows to choose how to modify the definition document when the modification with or without synchronisation is not possible (family instance, part already checked-out by another user,...) or when the choice is to not modify the definition document (option No above).

  • Convert to local part: The part is converted into local part before being modified.

  • Derive part for modification: The part is derivated before being modified.

Operation on part list:

Concerns batches of parts (defined by operations as repetition or serialization.

  • Mode :

  • Automatic: The settings bellow are automatically applied to the modified part during assembly operation.

  • Show dialogue: After validating the dialog box of an assembly operation, another dialog box is displayed with the options bellow so the user can decide their setting at the moment.

  • Part list modification method:

  • Convert to local part: The part is converted into local part before being modified.

  • Derive part for modification: The part is derivated before being modified.

Warning messages:

This options allow to not display warning messages when synchronizing, derivation or conversion to local part.
