Angle Pin

This command allows you to include an angle pin or an angular cam in the mold. It will be positioned on a slide or an insert part. It is possible to manage its positioning and trimming to get the wanted stroke.

Creation stages / Use:

Click the icon or select the Mold > Angle Pin... command from the drop-down menu.

  1. Choose the wanted pin among the standard components libraries.

  2. Position the pin relative to the selected slide.

  3. Determine the process parameters in the slide.

  4. Modify the positioning and trimming to get the wanted stroke.

  5. Validate .

  • With the inclusion of each angle pin, a parameter corresponding to the real stroke of the pin is automatically created in the mold document.

  • The parameter is named: Stroke - name of the angle pin inclusion operation.

Design mode:

  • It is possible to activate/deactivate a graphic cut via the Cut icon displayed in the graphic area.
  • The cut is graphic, temporary, and created automatically when the angle pin is included. It is only available after selection of a slide and a positioning plane. The cut is automatically deactivated when the angle pin is placed.

  • The visualization attributes of the cut can be set in the Graphic Cut options of the mold document.

Available options:

  • Manufacturer: It allows you to choose the library among the available ones in TopSolid.
  • Type: It is possible to choose to include angle pins or angular cams with this option.
  • Family: Depending on the Manufacturer and the Type selected, the drop down menu is updated and proposes the available families list.
  • Dimensioning: This option allows you to filter the code list, with proposing only the angle pin with the chosen diameter. If this option is not activated, all the codes are proposed.
For the angular cams, this dimensioning is linked to the cam section.
  • Use the best code: It is possible to choose the best code, it means the more appropriated, taking in account of the dimensioning, the positioning and the wanted stroke.
  • Code : Choose the wanted code in the drop down menu

  • Slide or insert part: Allows you to choose the slide (or insert) where insert the angle pin.
  • Movement opening frame: The Z Axis of the chosen frame indicate the movement direction. If an insert is selected, by default its frame is chosen.
  • Two positioning modes can be chosen:
  • Slide constraints, the position of the pin is determined by its position on the slide.
    • Positioning plane: Allows you to choose the positioning plane of the head pin.
    • Top: The center of the finger or cam head will be dimensioning regarding the Movement opening frame X Axis.
    • Slide: The center of the intersection between the pin and the slide will be dimensioning regarding the Movement opening frame X Axis.

It is possible to control the dimensions automatically created via the graphic handles, or by :

    • First constraint: Allows you to modify the dimension regarding the Movement opening frame X Axis.
    • Second constraint: Allows you to modify the dimension regarding the Movement opening frame Z Axis.
  • Frame : Choose the destination frame of the pin, which will be positioned under the head.

This option is available only available when including an angle pin.

  • Three head trimming modes are available:

  • None: The pin is not cut by the selected positioning plane.

  • Planar : The pin head is cut by the selected positioning plane.

  • Conical : the trimming head is conical.

These options are not available for straight or screwed pins.

  • The process realized in the slide by an angle pin can be of two types:
  • Cylindrical: driven by
    • A Diameter: Allows you to choose the drilling diameter in the slide (or insert).
    • Or a Diameter clearance : clearance added to the pin diameter.
    • The Fillet radius: Allows you to add fillet at the drill entry in the slide (or insert).
  •   Oblong: driven by
    • A Front clearance (slide insert side)
    • A Back clearance
    • A Lateral clearance
    • The Fillet radius: Allows you to add fillet at the machining entry in the slide (or insert).

  • The process realized in the slide by an angular cam is drived by:
  • Process dimension : with giving the sections width and length.
  • Or the Process clearance : with giving clearances on sections width and length.

  • The computing of the real stroke gotten with the chosen pin or cam is re evaluated following the chosen process.

It is possible to choose to adjust or not the angle pin stroke:

  • Measured stroke: From a required stroke, the software suggests values for the length, the angle or the length head to respect in order to get the closest stroke.
    • Length: The length which could respect the required stroke is given in brackets. It is possible to drive the pin length with respecting or not this value.
    • Angle: The pin angle which could respect the required stroke is given in brackets. It is possible to choose or not this value.
    • Head: Allows you to modify the head length to get the required stroke. The value which could respect this stroke is given in brackets.
    • In case of angular cam inclusion, only the length parameter can be adjusted.
  • Real stroke: Give informatively the value of the stroke, computed dynamically with the current settings.
  • Create parameter: This option allows you to create a parameter corresponding to the real stroke of the angle pin when it is included. This parameter is named Stroke - name of the angle pin include operation.

  • Preview : It is possible to choose to display or not the preview of the process on slide.
  • Representations : Allows you to choose in which Representations insert the pin, or in all, or only in the detailed representation.
