This command allows to create a rectangular profile and position it with key points.

Creation stages / Use:

Select the 2D Sketch > Other curves > Rectangular cell... command from the drop-down menu.

  1. Enter the width value.

  2. Enter the height value.

  3. Select a key point.

  4. Position the rectangular cell in your sketch.

  • When the automatic dimensions mode is enabled, dimensional constraints (driving dimensions) are created too.

  • According to the selected key point, centering constraints on dimensions could be created too (and this key point will be added in the sketch to define centering):

  • Center key point: centering constraints added on width dimension and height dimension.

  • Top/bottom center key point: centering constraints added on width dimension only.

  • Left/right center key point: centering constraints added on height dimension only.

The cells do not provide a profile or a section, they cannot be used as they are (for example, they cannot be extruded or use them to create a flat shape or a sheet metal part). They are used as construction geometry in sketch editing.

The Explode contextual command (called on a cell geometry) allows to break down a cell entity into 4 sketch segments to be able to make modifications (fillets, chamfers, etc...).

Modifications / Additional information:

The rectangular cell is created oriented by default so that the rectangle is not be deformed when it will be moved. However, you can disable this orientation with a right click on the rectangle and select Oriented (from Cell area).
