AutoCAD Import Options

Links/Videos:

This command allows to select AutoCAD import options.

These options are grouped in different tabs.

General:

In this tab are all layers, the different object space to import. Each object space (represented by a sub-tab) can be imported in a different type of document (Part, Assembly, Draft, Drawing, 2D or 3D Model).

The preview is also displayed. Its background color can be changed by clicking . The zoom by the wheel can be used, and also the global zoom .

Options:

In this tab are all import options:

  • Unit: Allows to force the document unit by selecting it in the drop-down list. Also allows to force the document scale.

  • Scale factor: Allows to force the document scale.

  • Basify dimensions: The consistency between the dimension and the geometry is verified upon import. If there is no consistency (forced dimension in AutoCAD), it is updated with the actual value at import.

    • No: Dimensions are not basified. Forced dimensions will be modified with the real value regarding the geometry. (This option is not recommended).

    • Yes: All dimensions will become text and lines.

    • Only wrong dimensions: To avoid this modification and to keep the value of the AutoCAD dimension, this option must be checked, then it will no longer be a dimension, but text.

  • Basify views: If this option is checked, TopSolid creates entities as they are displayed in the AutoCAD visualization.

  • Import Attributes: This option allows you to retrieve attributes (colors, ...) from different entities.

  • Auto center: The imported document is automatically centered.

  • Import points: Points of AutoCAD documents will also be imported.

  • Convert solids and surfaces as meshes: This option allows you to import solids and surfaces as meshes (then these meshes can be imported as facetted shapes or polyedrons) in order to save time during the import.

  • Basify texts: Allows to convert texts in linear segments.

Sketch:

Sketches created during the import can be Planar or Spatial.

Mesh:

The meshes entity types can be imported as polyedron, facetted shapes or exact shapes.

Templates:

Allows to choose a template document to use when importing.

Attributes (colors, type of lines, ...) of imported dimensions and texts can be modified after the import.
