Scattering Volume

This command allows to define a volumetric effect.

This matches the effects induced by light passing through particles like gas, smoke, dust, etc.

Creation stages / Use:

Select the Visualization > Scattering Volume... command from the drop-down menu of a Studio document.

  1. Give a name to this volume.

  2. Select the scattering shape.

  3. Specify the absorption color and its coefficient.

  4. Specify the scattering color and its coefficient.

Without scattering volume

With scattering volume

  • Absorption: defines the light attenuation by the volume.

  • Scattering: defines internal light scattering (i.e. the amount of surrounding light that illuminates it) and external light scattering (i.e. the amount of light dissipated in all directions).

Available options:

Frequencies of the light spectrum absorbed by the volume (usually white to absorb all frequencies).

Fraction of light absorbed by the volume per unit length.

Frequencies of the light spectrum scattered by the medium (usually white to absorb all frequencies).

Fraction of light scattered by the volume in all directions per unit length.

Modifications / Additional information:

The scattering shape is an entity. It is available in the Scattering Volumes folder in the entity tree, and can be edited or deleted from there.
