This command allows you to create a generic document as a basis for a family of parts or an assembly that will be modeled using one or more parameters.

Creation Stages / Use:

In a Family document, select the Tools > Generic document... command from the drop-down menu.

  1. Select the generic document or assembly from the drop-down list.

  2. Choose the base family document if the family must also be derived (ex. making a stainless steel screw family from a steel screw family). Otherwise, leave the field blank.

  3. Validate.

This part will not be real. It will only be used to product variants by replacing parameter values and updating the document. The indicate to TopSolid that the part is not real and that it should not be taken into account when search for parts based on criteria, it should be declared as being virtual.

If a basic family is selected, the generic part or assembly must be the generic document in this base family.
