Derive Part for Modification

This command allows you to create a derived part from an assembly in order to modify it. This command is very useful for modifying parts that cannot be modified by in place editing. (library components). For example, a screw cannot be modified, but with this command a new screw can be created that references the original, and the material can be modified on the new one or an operation can be added.

Derivating a part also allows to apply modification on it without impacting the original part.

Creation stages / Use:

By selecting the part to derive, choose the Others > Derive for modification... contextual command.

  • A document is created in the project tree (subassembly). The original part is turned off.

  • A Replacement operation is created in the operations tree.

  • The derived part can be edited in place for modification. You can therefore edit the derivation from the operations tree.

If the part to derive comes from several intermediate assembly levels, it is necessary to allow its derivation by checking the Allow to derive several levels of assembly option. Without this option enabled, the derivation command will not be available.
