Enclosing cylinder

This command creates the enclosing cylinder (dimensions) of the part.

Creation stages / Use:

Click the icon or select the Tools > Enclosing cylinder... command from the drop-down menu.

  1. Select the type of dimensions:

Select the axis to use to compute the part dimensions.

TopSolid manages cylinder dimensions to find the smallest possible dimensions.

  1. Select the cylinder axis.

  2. Select the origin point of the cylinder.

  3. Enter the cylinder diameter.

  4. Enter the cylinder length.

The cylinder will be defined based on the following criteria. The size being set, it can be smaller than the part.

Mode by default. The dimensions are not managed.

  • With Automatic mode dimensions are created using shape of the detailed representation folder (entities tree)

  • The result of the enclosing box is usable. The axis is located in the entities tree in the Axes folder, diameter and length are located in the Parameters folder of the entities tree.

Using Automatic mode may cause losses in performance. Each modification of the part requires a new calculation.

Available options:

This option allows to add margins to the enclosing cylinder in each direction.

Parameters are then created in the entities tree corresponding to the cylinder dimensions with margins. They can be retrieved in a BOM via the Tools > Stock command.

Example: a cylinder of 10mm diameter with a diameter margin of 0.2mm will have a parameter Cylinder marged diameter of 10.4mm.

This option allows to round the dimensions of the enclosing cylinder.

  • Enter the rounding step.

  • Select the resolution type (nearest value, inferior value ou superior value).

Example: a cylinder of 10mm diameter with a diameter margin of 0.2mm as well as a rounding of 0.5mm step with a resolution on superior value will have a parameter Cylinder marged diameter of 10.5mm.
