Location: 2D/3D \ Analysis of milling forms
Development:
Analyze the topology or the MF of the part and propose a list of pockets, open pockets and surfacings to machine them manually or automatically with the methods associated with the CAD processes.
The WCS are created automatically so that each feature is machinable by end machining
Machining features analysis
Here it is possible to choose the part to be analyzed and the way in which the analysis should be carried out:
![]() |
Topology method The machining features analysis is based on the topology of the part. TopSolid will analyze the entire part to recognize the milling operations. This method allows the analysis of parts without history.
|
![]() |
Method by MF
The machining features analysis is based on the operations defined on the CAD part (pocket, drilling...). The analysis is fast because there is no topology analysis to run.
|
To accelerate the analysis it is possible to limit the search in one direction.
Only features that can be machined by end machining with the tool axis in this direction will be offered.
Through pockets can only be detected if a direction of analysis is defined.

There are tree main areas :
The forms filters.
A display filter can be applied depending on the type of end milling machining with a right click on the type column.
Open pocketing Pocketing Facing |
The list of founded forms on the part.
To validate a form to machine just check the corresponding box at the beginning of the line.
The already machined forms are displayed on cyan background.
The forms that don't have any possible WCS in the current part positioning are displayed on grey background and can't be validated.
A right click displays the contextual menu allowing to :
- Validate or not all the selected forms.
- Search the associated method for each selected form.
- Delete the associated method for each selected form.
- Choose a method for all selected forms.
Display options
Show totally machined features Display machined features allows to display the already machined operations during the analysis of milling features ( cyan background).
|
|
Show unreachable features Allows to display in the list the milling geometries even if no WCS allows to machine them (gray background).
|
Keep associativity between method and generated operations allows when using method to keep a link to the method. If the method is modified in the futur the operations will must be updated.
Manual execution allows to choose the tools to machine the feature even if they are defined in the method.
Use cutting conditions from method allows to keep the cutting conditions defined in the method.
Launch Deferred allows to create operations without launching the tool paths calculations.
If answers have been given in previous methods they will be automatically proposed in the following identical methods.
Group options
It is possible to choose among criteria to group the features detected by the analysis.
Method/process association
The column Machining process displays the process associated to CAO forms.
The colum Method displays the methods asociated to CAO process in the association document (Special/Process-Method associations document), It contains « Manual machining » if no association is defined for the form.
A click on the box of a form in the column "Method" displays the method selection dialog box :
