Cutting conditions document

The cutting conditions are defined in the document " Cutting conditions"

To create this kind of document we must select it in "special" tab when creating a new document

The cutting condition document allows TopSolid to automatically select an "Abacus" or "Specific" cutting conditions for a tool depending on the part material and the machine.

More the criteria are precised and more the choice of the cutting conditions in the created abacus will be relevant.

TopSolid checks the relevance of the abacus by appling a colored circle in front of the selected abacus in the operation.

A dark green circle indicates that the automatic choice is relevant. All the criteria correspond to the operation conditions.

A dark red circle indicates that the automatic choice is not relevant. It means that it partially answer to the operation conditions.

A blue circle indicates that the cutting conditions have been specified on the tool. This is the best choice for TopSolid in automatic.

There are 2 ways to define the cutting conditions in a cutting condition document:

It can be created in a cutting condition document or directly in the cutting conditions menu of an operation.

Warning. The cutting conditions in that case are fixed. It means that it won't take the Ae/Ap into consideration.

They are defined in a table in which it indicates the cutting speed and feed rate depending on the maximal axial depth and radial depth. (Ae/Ap)

As soon as an abacus has been selected TopSolid can manage the cutting speed and feed rate of an operation. The only thing is that the Ae and Ap of the operation must be in the range of the abacus.

It allows to add specific cutting conditions to a tool for an already existing document.

This list appears if all the matching cutting conditions documents are available.

It allows to redefine the tool cutting conditions by linking it to an existing one.

This list shows all the matching abacus with the tool.

It allows to create a new cutting conditions document.

It allows to define the project or the library in which the document will be saved.

It allows to give a name to a new cutting conditions document.

It allows to associate an additional criteria "material" on the tool.

(this tool may have different cutting conditions depending on the material)

It allows to associate an additionnal criteria "machine" on the tool.

(this tool may have different cutting conditions depending on the machine)

A tool list ordered by type allows to visualize all the available tools.

It is then possible to use a filter to limit the number of tool in the list.

It allows to show all the tools defined in libraries

It allows to show all the tools defined in project

It allows to display all the single tools (defined with only the cutting solid)

It allows to display all the linked tools (defined with an assembly)

Tools which have specific cutting conditions are marked with a green tick

Tools without specific cutting conditions are marked with a red cross

It allows to add specific cutting conditions on the selected tool.

It allows to delete the specific cutting conditions of the selected tool.

It allows to sort the tool list by name.

It allows to sort the tool list by decreasing diameter.

To define cutting conditions in an abacus

The "cutting conditions document" is applied depending on the part material and/or the machine. The abacus allows to refine the automatic selection of the cutting conditions in an operation.

Management of ranges in the abacus:

Allow out-of-range values Allow out-of-range values
The operation cannot be validated if the Ae/Ap exceed the range defined in the abacus.

The operation will use the abacus even if the Ae/Ap exceeds the range

TopSolid will take the highest value of cutting speed.

It allows to create a new abacus

It alllows to modify an existing abacus

It allows to copy a new abacus

Allows to paste an abacus into the current cutting conditions document or even another cutting conditions document.

Allows to delete an abacus

It allows to sort the abacus by name

It allows to sort the abacus list by operation type

It allows to sort the abacus list by tool

It allows to sort the abacus list by material

When we click on the tab "abacus" and we add a new abacus by clicking on   it is possible to add some sort criteria:

The abacus allows to define:

In the table it is possible to choose the format of the feed rate.

Feed rate per rev is defined in millimeters per revolution

Linear feed rate is defined in millimeters per minute

Tooth feed rate is defined in millimeters per tooth

The button    allows to give an automatic name to the bacus depending on the sort criteria..

Operation

Once we have defined abacus TopSolid offers in the cutting conditions of the operation a list of abacus which can be selected depending on the material machined and the machine used in the machining document.

The relevance of the selected abacus is classified by pastilles of color. By default TopSolid will choose the most relevant. We then just have to click on the buton "apply abacus" to validate the choice.

The button   allows to check the cutting conditions refering of the axial and radial depth defined in the operation.

The button   allows to locate the cutting conditions document used in the TopSolid's libraries or project.

  • It is possible to drag & drop a tool document in a cutting conditions document to define specific cutting conditions for that tool.

  • It is possible to drag & drop a machining document in a cutting conditions document to define the specific conditions of the tool used in that machining document.

  • In a cutting conditions document a right click on a tool which already have specific conditions allows several actions:

It allows to link a tool to an abacus. When a tool is used in an abacus TopSolid always takes this abacus to define the cutting conditions for operations that uses this tool.

It allows to locate a tool in the TopSolid libraries or projects.

It allows to create a new abacus link to a selected tool. The abacus filter are then automaticaly filled up.

It allows to choose the column to display for the specific cutting conditions of a tool.
